Race Report

Although it rained just before the start of the race, there was a good vibe in the crowd as the race got underway.

After months of training on empty pavements, getting used to having a crowd was one of the highlights of the first few miles, as we passed residential areas, particularly when they shouted out names which gave a little boost.

I felt good for the first 13 miles but as we passed over the London Bridge, the real race was starting. Near the half way point my left knee started to cause me some pain, but pain killers and prayer helped me through.

The toughest period was between miles 16 and 21, as I was already tired but knew that there was a good few miles to go.

As passed the London Eye and I knew that there were only a few more miles to go. The cloud from the start of the race had cleared and it was getting very hot so I tried to stay cool with plenty of water.

As I crossed the line I was very pleased to have made it round safely.

All in all it was a succesful day, with the run being enjoyable and money raised for charity.

I very much doubt that I will do it again but as a one off experiance it was fantastic.

My final time was 4 hours 27 mins and 47 seconds. Given the hot weather towards the end, I am satisfied with this.

A big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me, to my wife who supported me over the dark winter training runs and my parents and parents in law who cheered me on during the race.

Run Tracking

Thanks for all of the support so far, the fund raising total has lept up to over £1,5000. So thank you for these donations.

On terms of my progress this week, I visited the physio for some sports massage last night - and the good news is that all is well with the legs.

In terms of diet, I am now in day two of my carb loading programme - trying to store up some extra energy for the second half of the race on Sunday.

Some people have asked what I will be wearing on Sunday in order to try and spot me in the 35,000 people on TV, unfortunetly, the answer is a combination of a grey top and grey shorts (I should have planned this better) with white lettering on the front and the back. As a safer bet.........

If you want to track my run, you can do so with the Adidas phone application. All you need to do is have a smart phone, and text 'run' to 83040. They will then send you a link.

If you check back over the weekend I will upload my race number once I have recieved it on Saturday. All you need to do is type this into the page.

It will give you updated times every 5km.

One week to go

It has been quite a few months, a very cold winter, but spring is here.

There is no point in trying to get much fitter now. I am well into the tapper, this week will consist of running a few miles a day and eating plenty of carbohydrates to build up my energy for next Sunday.

I can't belive that race day is so close. It is time to look back at all of the training, take confidence from the best of the runs, and look forward to next weekend.

These are the best (and worst) of the photos that I have not uploaded yet.

It is still not too late to sponsor me if you would like to do so:

Ran through the park and along the touchline of a game of football.

Then down towards Reddish Vale.

A very nice evening for a run.

Three weeks to go....

Final long run today. Had a very encouraging phone call from Ruel this morning (Director of the charity that I am running for) very much appreciated.

Ran along the canals of Thameside through Abbey Hay, Ashton, Hyde and Romley. The geese along the Canal were somewhat hostile, which along with the soft towpath and mud slowed the pace at times, but the route was facinating throw back to the industrial hertitage on the North West, particularly liked the near pitch black 100 metre tunnel, but was not too keen on the hidden puddles.

After drying myself I then headed back to the roads through Stockport to Didsbury. Around 18 miles in total.

My niggle with my knee has developed slightly, so the run was cut short as a precaution, but was still good to get a decent number of miles in the bag.

Planning to have a few days recovery and then tapper my runs in the lead up to the big day.

It is not too late to sponsor me if you would like to do so:

Four Weeks To Go

Was taken to Paris for the weekend by my wife as a late 30th birthday present.

We stayed in a hotel overlooking the main museum and river.

I ran around the city on the Sunday morning including the park de Luxembourg along with 50 or so French runners. Got to say that the city, parks, architecture and food are excellent. Managed 7 miles.

Four weeks until the marathon, so I am planning one more long run before I taper the training. It is not too late to sponsor me if you would like to:

Week 14 Day 3

Blizzard!

Not the best conditions for running with ice on the pavements and snow on the roads.

Was very tempted to stay on the sofa.......

But forced myself to go to the gym.....

Looks like the snow will be around for the rest of the week so may have to make fitness first my home for now.

Slight hamstring strain so only jogging on the running machines. Trying to do other equipment instead including planty of rowing. Also, struggling with the small dumb bells amongst the beefcakes in the free weights area.
