Week 13 Day 5

Ran 8 miles this morning around rural Somerset.

Saw some wildlife......

And some motor vehicles....,

I think that the pace of life is a bit slower down here.

Ran 5.8 miles this morning in North Wales, from Brnyford to a nearby village and back. Staying withy parents for 2 nights. Having eaten three roast dinners on succesive days, i was not the fastest, so tried to run fast to work some of it off.

Was given some running gloves as a present which were v.useful today. Driving to Taunton tonight, so will be in the warmer South West by this evening.

Week 11 Day 1

The Longridge Christmas pudding race is 7 miles, 3.5 uphill and 3.5 down. I decided to use two older guys as pace setters as I has heard that some people set off too quick and have to walk up some of the steepest hills.

Once the warm up was over the gun sounded and we were off. I stayed towards the back in the hope that the tortoise approch would prevail.

I was more than a little dissapointed when at the first hill my pace setters stopped and walked. Not a good start.

But my target of 1hr 10 mins (without stopping) was not totaly out of reach.

The hills got steeper as we reached the 2,3 and 4 mile markers. Plenty of people started walking so I could pick them off. Likewise on the way back down I was passing other runners.

No time for photographs, it was all about the running

As I approached the finnish I was pleased to have made it round in one piece. 1 hr 2 mins was a good time but the 199th place was not quite as good.

Pleased with the prize though, it is called the Christmas pudding run after all!

Week 9 day 1

Four mile run at lunch time with a collgue from work, Matt.

He's a bit faster than I am and used to the run, so it was good to try a new route and have a pace setter.

I'm off to the lake district for the weekend, so should hopefully get some more nice scenery and one or two hills ahead of the Longridge pudding run.

Week 8 Day Two

Did a 7.1 mile run this evening. Did not have much left in the tank towards the end. Set myself a target of doing a 10 mile run in the next two weeks. Have given up choclate and beer in the hope that this will help me to lose a stone in the next two months. Christmas time - fun and food may not make this easy.

Week 7 day 6

Managed a short run today on the first morning of a weekend break to Dublin. Not good weather.

It was raining that fine type which is like the fine mist spray on your garden hose.

Ran around the dock area, across a lock, past a boat...

Past a new bridge and back to the hotel for a big breakfast to undo all of the good work. Soaked.

Off to the Temple Bar for a pint of Guiness tonight.

Not a bad way to spend a weekend.

Week 7 Day 3

Managed 5.2 miles this evening. Feeling much better. Went for a short run and just kept going.

Started in Reddish and looped back round through Levenshulme. Stopped for a short breather at around half way, but then kept going.

Pleased that I managed a resonable distance, but need to build on this.

Week 7 Day 1

Tried running for the first time since being unwell. Mind said run, body said no! Only managed 1.2 miles, but it is progress from the last few weeks.

Lying in bed Reading a running magazine. Trying to convince myself that it counts as training. Not sure that it should.

Feeling a bit down that I have fallen so far behind the schedule. Need to get back into lunch time runs and catch up, it will all be worth it on race day.

Week 6

Back at work but still only 80% healthy -not sure if I should run until I feel fully better.

Adjusting to the dark in the evenings is not easy but I will try to run during my lunch breaks.

However the mornings are looking good.

Really need to get back into the training asap as I can not afford to miss more than this.

Have entered a run in longridge, Lancashire on the 13th December. It is 7 miles and if you finnish you get a Christmas pudding.

Strangley looking forward to running and working next week, let's hope Im on the road to recovery.

Week four day four

On holiday in Gozo this week - a small island near Malta. Managed to run early this morning. The island is only small so I ran to the capital and back, visa slight detour ( when I got lost)

There were plenty of locals that said good morning to me. Although it was hot and sunny there was constant shade on one side of the road, particularly on the narrow cobbled streets.

I am pleased to find that there is a gym in the hotel. I will try to use this and do a few more miles this week.

Week 3 day 4

5 miles today. Felt good for the first three so things must be improving. Listened to a pocast from a guy I used to dj with. Enjoyed it, but did feel a pang of jelosy that he is collaborating with my heros while I am running through Levenhulme.

One step at a time, that's all it takes.

Week two day six

Did the Pennine Loop today 5.68 miles. Trainers are feeling good. Found out why all my podcasts were playing twice as fast as they should be. I had pressed the x2 button. Dohh.

Nice to have some normal speed music. Found out I can put video on here so may try a small clip next week.

Photos from today's run:

Week two day five

Longest run yet today 4.5 miles. Ran out towards the castle cement works through Waddington and back into Clitheroe. Need to do at least this distance once a week and start to add a mile or two as I get fitter. Need new trainers, planning to go sooner rather than later so my feet can get used to them.

I can think of worse places to run.

No run today. Had friends round to help with building flat pack furniture. Need to get the house ready for our wedding - 2 weeks today! While this is making me very busy at the moment I am determined to keep going with the training.

Week one day 6

No time for breakfast today. Ran at lunch time after a stressful morning at work and after, so not much energy. Told Syd i was going for a run and he said that he was going for a pie, very tempting. I pod was playing up so the drum and bass was at double speed, should have got round in half the time but could not keep up. Blister giving me some grief.

Quiet night in with a video, glass of wine and a beautiful fiancé. Bliss.

Sat nav is certain I was running in Algeria. I was not so convinced.

Week one day four

Should I run today?

Rain rain rain.

Week one day three

First day back at work since having my place confirmed. I think that motivation is going to be factor over the winter. Not sure if I should keep my gym membership on or run on the roads in the area. Not feeling to sure about this all today. Decided on an alternative activity to running:

Went for the meal with Ruel and Cath last night. Great food and company. Pleased that Ruel agreed to me running for his charity. Would like to raise £3k but will have to see how it goes. The fund raising will be for Bhimavaram life centre school, India.

Week one day two

Second run in Wales, GPS going properly today, short distance only 1.23 mile, 12 mins, ave speed 6.8 mph. It's a start. Plenty of room for improvement.

Need some new trainers, thinking of going to the traingle where they do the slow motion video tecnology thing where the find out you run like all wrong like a disabled girraffe and give you some shoes to comphensate. Meal with Ruel from the charity tonight, doubt that he will turn down the support, but you never know!

Week one day one

Recieved my acceptance form in the post when I got home last night. Very pleased. First training

run today. Nearly died. Wrote my will on my phone half way up a steep hill. Not good. Sister told me not to push it too hard but I would not listen. No reception for tracker application in such a remote part of Wales, started my blog though. Thinking of running for a charity that my Dad has been involed in setting up. They run a school in India called Bhimavaram life centre. If I can raise a grand it would be good. Meeting with Ruel tommorow night so will mention it to him and see what he says.
